Major League Baseball’s new office will have a ragsto-riches component.
The commissioner’s office said Monday it will open its first permanent retail location in the U.S., the MLB Flagship Store, next summer.
MLB is moving its offices in January to the west side of midtown Manhattan, near Rockefeller Center, in the tower above the retail store. The sport has been in its current offices, near Grand Central Terminal, since 1999. The new location will also house Major League Baseball Advanced Media, which has been farther downtown in Chelsea.
The 17,000 square-foot MLB Flagship Store will have two floors.
Legends, whose owners include the New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys, will operate the store.
The Chicago Cubs say they plan to interview former Philadelphia manager Gabe Kapler and Houston bench coach Joe Espada this week about their managerial opening.
The Astros have an off day Monday ahead of Game 3 in the ALCS in New York on Tuesday. Kapler was fired last week after going 161-163 in two years with the Phillies.
The Cubs are searching for a successor to Joe Maddon, whose contract expired after Chicago missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2014. At least four other candidates have spoken with the Cubs about the job: Joe Girardi, Mark Loretta, David Ross and Will Venable.
Roger Federer says he plans to play at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The Swiss great, a four-time Olympian, says “at the end of the day my heart decided I would love to play at the Olympic Games again.”
Federer made the announcement in Tokyo during at an exhibition event for his Japanese uniform supplier.
Federer will turn 39 shortly after the Olympic tournament. He had previously planned his schedule up to Wimbledon, which ends two weeks before the Tokyo Games.
He will need a wild-card exemption because he has not played Davis Cup games to be eligible.
Federer won doubles gold for Switzerland with Stan Wawrinka at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver in singles at the 2012 London Games at Wimbledon.
