Newburgh racks up seventh straight win over Kingston

- Freeman staff

Newburgh Free Academy continued its dominance over Kingston High in football Friday night, winning its seventh in a row over the Tigers with a 48-0 victory.

The unbeaten Goldbacks, now 6-0 overall, ruled on both sides of the line in the Section 9 contest. It was the first time Newburgh had shut out the Tigers in 16 years.

Kingston fell to 2-4 overall and 0-5 in Class AA.

Kingston recovered an onside kick to start the game, but the ploy backfired. The Tigers went 3-and-out and Newburgh proceeded to score on all six of its possessions in the first half.

Amarri Tice completed just four passes for the Goldbacks, but three were for touchdowns.

Newburgh led 41-0 by halftime. Tice threw a 21-yard TD pass to Kendall Scott, Joe Cotten scored on a 1-yard plunge and Justin Barnhill dove in from the 2 in the first quarter.

It was more of the same in the second quarter as Tice connected with Deondre Johnson on a 32-yard scoring pass and later found Jaden Caballero for one that bracketed a 4-yard TD run from Yasir Arnold.

The Goldbacks used their sec

ond team for all of the second half. Barnhill scored on a 7-yard TD pass from backup quarterback Tyler

Rafferty late in the fourth quarter.

Newburgh rushed for 258 yards on 28 carries and Tice threw for 110 yards.

Tiger defensive back Makeil Scott intercepted Rafferty to end the fourth quarter.

Kingston never got on

track. The Tigers managed just 87 yards offense and never got closer to the end zone than the Goldback 30. Chapman Parker was 5-for22 passing for 20 yards and was intercepted by Steven Acosta and Johnson.

The Tigers once again

hurt themselves with penalties, getting flagged a dozen times for 100 yards.

Kingston completes its regular season Friday, Oct. 25, at home against Pine Bush. The Tigers will get crossover games after that to finish out the schedule.
