Interfaith Music Festival on Nov. 3 in Poughkeepsie

-

The Dutchess County Interfaith Council will be presenting the 44th Annual Interfaith Music Festival “Sing to the Lord!” on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 161 Manston St.

This longstanding event provides the opportunity for people of many congregations to gather and appreciate the worship music of the varied faiths present in the Hudson Valley. The program will feature a sampling of music and performances from the Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Muslim traditions.

The Interfaith Choir will be premiering the work “Psalm 98,” composed and accompanied by Gretchen Gould and a setting of Psalm 146 in Hebrew, “Haleluyah haleli” by Salamone Rossi. The choir will also sing a Shaker hymn “O Lord I Will Praise Thee,” arranged and conducted by Maris Kristapsons and a contemporary Gospel song called “Friend of God,” conducted by Barbara Davis of Bethel Mis

sionary Baptist Church.

Other groups presenting at the Music Festival will include a children’s choir under the direction of Amy Huber, members of the Hindu Samaj, a solo by Emily Duersch from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. John’s Recorder Ensemble, a presentation from Masjid Al-Noor and a children’s group called “The Magical Bells” from Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church.

This year the council will be honoring Amy and Andy Huber, and Maris Kristapsons for contributing their musical talents and for their dedication to the festival for many years. The festival is one of the largest fundraisers of the Dutchess County Interfaith Council. The proceeds support the council’s programs, including the CROP Walk to End Hunger and the Interfaith Story Circle, among others.

There is a $10 suggested donation at the door.
