Kingston boys win at tourney, 8-0 on year
Tigers down Guilderland in opening round of Colonie Holiday Tournament to remain undefeated
Clayton Pattillo and Brady Short scored 21 points apiece and Dylan Perry and Shy’quan Royal combined for 25 to guide undefeated Kingston High to an eighth consecutive boys basketball victory Saturday, defeating Guilderland 74-54 in the Colonie Holiday Tournament.
Kingston is back for the final round of the tourney on Monday, Dec. 30, to face Colonie in the 7 p.m. contest.
Pattillo hit five 3-point field goals, while Short also dished out nine assists. Royal snagged eight rebounds to go with his 11 points, while Perry sank four 3-pointers en route to a 14-point effort.
Ameer Rolle also had a big game on the boards for the Tigers with eight rebounds to go with his first-half 3-pointer.
Daiveyon Jackson, ShaCorey Jones and Kaeshawn Brodhead also made a basket for Kingston.
A balanced attack and a terrific defensive effort had the Tigers in control.
Kingston hit six treys in a 26-point first quarter to move in front. It led 43-33 by halftime and pulled away by holding Colonie to seven points in the third quarter.
“We came out, we played hard, we played very well. We made the extra pass, made 13 threes and defended well,” said Kingston coach Ron Kelder, who switched defenses in the second half to go ahead by as many as 23 points. Colonie didn’t score in the third quarter until there was a minute left in the period.
Ryan Teaney led the Flying
Dutchmen with 18 points, but was held to four in the second half. Christian Halayko tried to pick up the slack in the second half, scoring all 12 of his points.
“We handled their bigs
around the paint, played man(-to-man defense) the first half, played zone the second half,” Kelder said. “Both of them were pretty effective. We shut them right down in the third quarter with the zone. I don’t think they expected us to go zone.
“It was just an overall smooth performance,” Kelder said.
