Area business people ‘On the Move’

Margaret Robelee, a resident of Saugerties, N.Y., has received the 2019 Joy of Effort Award by the New York State Associatio­n for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, a statewide organizati­on whose membership consists of K-16 profession­als and future profession­als.

Robelee has taught physical education for 33 years in the Hyde Park Central School District and currently is a supervisor of student teachers at SUNY Cortland. Robelee’s award was presented at the Jay B. Nash Award Dinner during the Associatio­n’s 82nd Annual Conference held at the Turning Stone Convention

Center in November.

••• Community volunteer and philanthro­pist Winnie Thorn will receive the prestigiou­s Columbia Memorial Health Clara Kellner Award for public service.

Thorn will be honored at the CMH Foundation’s annual Winter Blast at Club Helsinki on Saturday, Feb.1, a fundraiser to benefit CMH.

Clara Kellner was a long-standing volunteer and benefactor of CMH and former chairwoman of the CMH Board of Trustees. The award carries her name to recognize individual­s who continue Kellner’s

legacy of volunteeri­sm and philanthro­py on behalf of CMH and the greater community.

Thorn currently serves on the CMH Foundation Board of Trustees. She has served on the CMH Board of Trustees and as Vice President of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her volunteer service extends to numerous organizati­ons, including the American Cancer Society, Columbia-Greene Community Hospice, Fund for Columbia County Committee at Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Friends of Olana, Columbia-Greene Community College, Columbia County Council on the Arts, Hudson Junior Service League, Jaycees, Boys’ Club Auxiliary, and on the Vestry of Christ Episcopal Church in Hudson.

Thorn has been the recipient of several American Cancer Society (ACS) awards, including the Mary Holland Award for outstandin­g Crusade volunteer, Volunteer of the Decade (New York State Division), the National Volunteer Leadership Award, and the St. George Medal the ACS’s highest national honor for volunteer service.

Walkway Over the Hudson members confirmed the 2020 Board of Directors and heard a report on the previous year’s activities during the organizati­on’s annual meeting on Dec. 11 at the Locust Grove Estate in Poughkeeps­ie.

Tony Pagano, CEO of a Manhattan-based constructi­on developmen­t firm with roots in Marlboro, and Ann Weiser, a retired television executive and Hyde Park resident, were elected to their first term.

John Storyk, Founding Partner and Director of

Design for Walters-Storyk Design Group in Highland, was re-elected board chair.

Christina Bark of Christina Bark & Associates, Michael Fleischer, retired from Holby Valve, Inc., and Howard Schwartz of Howie Schwartz Recording were confirmed to a second three-year term, joining 10 returning directors. The board thanked outgoing directors Paul Haering, Natasha Krupp, Mike Oates, and Jayne McLaughlin for their service.
