Highland splits pair in Holiday Classic

Highland High split a pair of games this weekend at the Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Huskies defeated Spackenkil­l 48-26 Saturday after losing to Millbrook 65-50 on Friday.

Addie McDowell made the All-Tournament team for Highland, leading the team with 15 points in the Spackenkil­l win and 17 against Millbrook.

Highland 48, Spackenkil­l 26

Dehanna Stevens chipped in with 12 points and Emma Thompson scored seven to pace Highland to the win.

Spackenkil­l’s Tori Guy had 12 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Natalie Romasco (four points, eight rebounds), Elishia Harrison (four points, seven rebounds) and Franchelis Guzman (four points, five rebounds) helped the Spartans (0-4) on the boards.

Millbrook 65, Highland 50

At Highland, McDowell had her 17 and Stevens scored 16 to guide the Huskies. Thompson and Grace Koehler each scored six points for Highland.

Erin Fox poured in 30 points, Emily Grasseler tallied 11 and Natalie Fox scored 10 for Millbrook.

Wallkill 48, Onteora 18

At Wallkill, Madison Dembrowski had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers in the opening round of their annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament.

Lexie Mesuch (seven points, six rebounds), Adeline Spignardo (seven points), Emma Schwarzbec­k (six points, four steals, three assists) and Kyle Detz (six points, six rebounds, five assists) also had big performanc­es for Wallkill.
