Jake Stern scores 1,000th point, Onteora defeats Dover

Jake Stern scored his 1,000th career point on a three-point shot and finished with 21 points as Onteora rolled over Dover 67-29 in a MidHudson Athletic League boys basketball game Friday.

Remarkably, Stern — a fan of the late Lakers icon Kobe Bryant and who wears number 24 — reached the historic milestone with a shot that brought Onteora’s point total to 24.

Stern became the eighth player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

With the win Onteora has a chance to clinch a spot in the MHAL Tournament when they face Ellenville at home Wednesday.

Zachary Fulford and Daniel Meisler each pitched in 12 points and Logan Holmquist tacked on eight for the Eagles.

Brett DiVestea scored 11 points and Chris Waldron added eight for the Dragons.

Marlboro 77, FDR 73

At Hyde Park, With the Presidents down by two with 10 seconds to play, Jake London hit the tying basket to send the game to overtime, but Roosevelt ended up coming up just short of the win.

“We made a run in the fourth to take it overtime,” Presidents coach Kevin Hart said.

Trailing by as much as eight points in the third after squanderin­g a five-point lead at the half, the Dukes chipped away throughout the fourth, finding themselves in front by three late in regulation.

“It was a back-and-forth game; we had a couple of

costly turnovers down the stretch,” Hart said.

C.J. Faircloth led the way for Marlboro, pouring in 24 points. Jay Schwarzbec­k pitched in 22 points, Korbyn Samuels had 16 and Adam Drake tacked on 10 to lead the Dukes.

London’s 21-point evening paced Roosevelt, while Dylan Craft contribute­d 16 points and Justin Patsey and Hunter Vansteenbu­rg each added 13 for the Presidents.

New Paltz 77, Rondout 39

At New Paltz, The Huguenots

got off to a 41-15 lead at the half and never looked back as they downed the Ganders.

Justin Demaria led the way for New Paltz scoring 24 points and draining four three-pointers, while Jeffery Reynoso added 14.

Aaron Coston pitched in 14 points to pace Rondout Valley.

Wallkill 51, Red Hook 46

At Wallkill, The Panthers dug out of a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat the Raiders.

Wallkill (9-6) went on a 13-7 run in the third to cut the deficit to four heading into the final period of play and held an 17-8 advantage in the fourth to key the victory.

Mat Shea scored 22 points, Brian Cross added 10 points and freshman Justin Noelizaire came up with nine points while leading a defensive unit that held Red Hook’s top scorer Brendan Cahill to just four points.

Luke Crittenden scored 15 points and Dylan Bayliss added eight to pace the Raiders.

Ellenville 40, Rhinebeck 32

At Ellenville, Michael Clay put up a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) and came up with five steals while Jessie Rodriguez scored 12 points and had six steals to lead the Devils (7-4, 3-2) over the Hawks.

Brendan Hines (16 points) paced Rhinebeck.
