Several injured after ambulance, Lyft car collide

- Mid-Hudson News Network

An ambulance responding to a medical call was involved in a crash with a Lyft car late Friday, injuring several people.

The Mobile Life Support Services ambulance was dispatched to the Poughkeepsie train station about 10 p.m. for a person complaining of leg pain. While en route, with its siren and roof lights on, the ambulance collided with a car that had five occupants at the intersection of Mill and North Bridge streets.

The impact pushed the car into the side wall of the Muzzie’s convenience store at the intersection. The ambulance then struck the back of the car, pushing it farther into the wall.

The car, which had a driver and four passengers, was operating as a Lyft ride-sharing vehicle. The ambulance was occupied by two emergency medical responders.

An ambulance from the neighboring Fairview Fire District brought the five people who were in the car to a hospital. The Mobile Life members were treated at the scene by another Mobile Life crew and then taken to a hospital. One of them had a head laceration.

A city building inspector ordered the convenience store closed until an engineer can assess the damage more thoroughly. Shelves and products inside the store were dislodged by the impact of the crash, but there was no one inside the business at the time.

A neighbor confirmed to Mid-Hudson News Network that the ambulance had its siren on before the crash.

“I heard the sirens coming down the hill, and all of a sudden, I heard a loud crash,” said the neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. “I looked out the window and saw a car into the side of Muzzie’s with the ambulance crashed into the back of the car.”
