Organizers of the Kiwanis Kingston Classic announced Saturday that they are monitoring the coronavirus threat.

With news that Sunday’s Shamrock Run was canceled, organizers of the Kiwanis Kingston Classic announced Saturday that they are monitoring the coronavirus threat.

The Classic, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, is still being planned to be held and is accepting registration. Once again, the event will feature a 1.5-mile run, a 5-kilometer race and the iconic 10K race.

“The Kiwanis Kingston Classic organizers have been working in close, weekly contact with city, county and state officials to ensure a safe and successful Kiwanis Kingston Classic. We have been carefully following the developments related to coronavirus in our area and will use this information in our preparations and plans on how, or if, it will affect the Kiwanis Kingston Classic,” a statement from the Classic’s organizers read. “The Kiwanis Kingston Classic organizers will follow the lead of the Ulster County Health Department.

“We will provide any needed updates of this growing problem as we receive them and look forward to having a successful race.”

Organizers are asking participants to check kiwaniskingstonclassic.com for updates.

The 2019 Classic drew 521 runners.

Kingston Mayor Steve Noble announced a state of emergency Friday that included a ban on gatherings of 50 or more people. Soon after the declaration, both the Shamrock Run and Kingston’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade were canceled.
