Virus delays Legoland opening until 2021

-

The planned July 2020 opening of the Legoland New York Resort in Orange County has been pushed back to 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, parent company Merlin Entertainments announced Tuesday.

“Nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our team, the partners we work with, and the communities we serve,” Legoland New York Resort Divisional Director Stephanie Johnson said in a prepared statement. “We are in an unprecedented situation that has affected businesses worldwide. By opening Legoland New York Resort in 2021, we are building an attraction that not only meets our high standards, it also gives our guests the best possible

experience.”

Legoland New York — a $350 million theme park and hotel off Route 17 in Goshen — was to celebrate its grand opening this coming July 4. An exact date of the 2021 opening was not provided Tuesday.

The park is to have 50 rides, shows and attractions across seven themed “lands” on 150 acres.

Legoland said it still plans to hire more than 1,000 people to staff the Orange County theme park and hotel and that it will honor job offers made for the presumed July 2020 opening.

Legoland also said all previously purchased annual passes or single-day tickets for the Goshen site will be honored once the park opens.

The other Legoland parks are in California, Florida, the United Kingdom, Germany, Malaysia, Denmark, Dubai and Japan.
