Woodstock Open will take place July 27
The field will include last year’s professional winner Scott Berliner
MOUNT TREMPER, N.Y. » The 85th Annual Emerson Resort & Spa Woodstock Open will be taking place Monday, July 27, at the Woodstock Golf Club, it was announced Tuesday.
“We’re thrilled to enter into our fourth year as the premier sponsor of the Emerson Resort & Spa Woodstock Open,” Emerson Resort & Spa Marketing and Sales Director Tamara Murray said in a press release. “This historical golf tournament brings leading professional and amateur players from across the region to the Catskills.
“It is a prestigious event that showcases our community as a tourism destination and never disappoints with a close and exciting championship.”
The list of entrants for this year’s tournament includes Scott Berliner, last year’s professional winner. The 45-yearold assistant professional at Saratoga Spa Golf Course will attempt to capture his fourth overall open title. Joining Berliner will be 2001 champion Dal Daily, and 2014 winner and host professional Chris Sanger.
Dick McDermott, the Woodstock Open’s chairman, said in the release that the tourney will be held safely and responsibly in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Justin Lane, last year’s overall champion amateur and a local product. will miss this year’s event due to a commitment to play in the New York State Golf Association’s Men’s State Amateur Championship. Lane’s 4-under-par 66 was good enough for a one-stroke victory over Berliner at last year’s tournament.
The overall professional winner is guaranteed a $3,000 payday and the top amateur will re
ceive a $500 gift card. Included in the competition is a senior division for the top 50-and-older players. The tournament will add a new tradition themed after the Masters’ coveted green jacket. Beginning this year, every overall winner will be presented an Emerson Resort & Spa Woodstock Open champion’s robe.
Professional players and amateurs with a handicap of 8 or less can sign up by clicking on the Emerson Resort & Spa Woodstock Open link or by calling the Woodstock pro shop at (845) 6792914. The deadline for entry is Wednesday, July 22, or the first 72 players to sign up for either a morning or afternoon tee time. Players must follow the tournament’s COVID-19 guidelines.
Woodstock Golf Club is a private nine-hole course.
