2 TEENS SHOT; NO ARREST YET
Apparently ‘not a random act’; victims ‘may have been targeted’
KINGSTON, N.Y. » Two teenage boys were released from a hospital after being shot at the Birchwood Village apartment complex on Colonial Drive, a city police official said Thursday.
Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer said the victims, ages 15 and 17, both suffered leg wounds in the Wednesday night incident and were treated at HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus in Kingston.
Police continued their investigation Thursday but had not determined a motive for the shooting or made any arrests, Croizer said.
Police said the shootings happened outside an apartment at Birchwood Village just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The victims, whose names were not provided, “may have been targeted,” police said in a press release Wednesday night.
“It appears that this is not a random act,” the release stated.
The Kingston Police Department said it was assisted in the investigation by state police, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the county District Attorney’s Office, New York City Department of Environmental Protection police and the town of Ulster Police Department.
In February, 31-yearold Ashley Stephan Dixon, of Green Street in Kingston, was killed in a shooting outside a building at the Stuyvesant Charter apartment complex, adjacent to Birchwood Village. Cory Q. Smith, 35, of the Bronx, was charged with murder in that case the following month.
The Dixon homicide was the third fatal shooting in Kingston in a span of less than four months. The other two, both of which happened in Midtown, remain unsolved.
