Man pointed handgun at officers, police say
The father of an overdosing male was arrested early Sunday after pointing a gun at responding officers, according to the Rosendale Police Department.
Police did not report any shots being fired.
The police department said officers went to a home in the hamlet of Tillson about 12:20 a.m. for a report of a person suffering from an overdose of medications.
When the officers arrived, police said in a Facebook post, they were met by the younger male, who was “combative” and “attempted to refuse them entry.”
“The male physically struck the officers and engaged in a physical altercation” with them, police said.
During the altercation, the father of the combative male entered from another room with a handgun and “pointed [the weapon] at point-blank range at the officers,” police said. “Initially, he refused commands to drop the weapon, but was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.”
The father, whose name was not immediately provided, was charged with menacing a police officer, a felony, was arraigned in Hurley Town Court and posted $3,000 cash bail, police said. He is to appear in Rosendale Town Court at a later date.
The younger male, who also was not identified, was treated at the scene and then brought by ambulance to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston. He was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, and harassment, a violation, police said. He was issued a court appearance ticket and released.
Police did not provide the address where the incident occurred.
The Rosendale Police Department said it was assisted the scene by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, state police, Mobile Life Support Services, the Tillson Fire Department and Ulster County Child Protective Services.
