COVID-19 case total is lowest since Aug. 25

Tuesday’s tally of 107 was down from 119 Monday and 130 Sunday, and the smallest since 106 a month ago.

For the second consecutiv­e day, Ulster County on Wednesday reported a decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases and Dutchess County reported a slight increase.

Ulster County said on its online dashboard of COVID informatio­n that there were 107 active cases of the illness as of Tuesday, down from 119 Monday and 130 Sunday.

Tuesday’s active case total in Ulster County was the lowest since Aug. 25, when it was 106.

Dutchess County’s online dashboard on Wednesday reported 140 active cases as of Monday, up from 134 on Sunday and 123 on Saturday.

Neither county reported any additional COVID-related deaths. There have been 95 deaths in Ulster and 156 in Dutchess.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March, Ulster County has had 2,260 confirmed cases of the coronaviru­s, 2,058 of which are classified as “recovered.” Dutchess has had 5,084 cases and 4,788 recoveries.

On Tuesday, Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan said 89,774 tests for COVID had been administer­ed in the county, a number equal to about half the population. The 472 results received by the county on Tuesday included no new positives.

There also were no new cases Tuesday at SUNY New Paltz, according to COVID informatio­n posted Wednesday on the college’s website. The college said two active cases remained out of the 16 diagnosed since the fall semester began a month ago.

There currently are eight SUNY New Paltz students in campus quarantine and none in isolation, the college said. And no employees of the college have tested positive this semester.

Greene County on Wednesday reported it has had 322 COVID cases to date but only one that remained active. There have been 19 deaths from COVID in Greene County.

Columbia County on Wednesday reported 555 cases to date but only four that were active. There have been 37 deaths from the virus in Columbia County.
