Board OKs creation of Spring Lake Sewer District
TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. » The Town Board has approved establishing the Spring Lake Sewer District.
Construction of the sewer system, using money from a grant approved three years ago, is to be done in two phases.
The Spring Lake area is along and near Lucas Avenue, just outside the city of Kingston.
The first phase of the work, costing an estimated $920,000, will be on Catskill Avenue, Golf Terrace and part of Lucas Avenue. It will include 62 mobile home sites, 41 single-family homes, two twofamily homes, two commercial properties and one multi-family home.
Town officials say homes on Catskill Avenue and Golf Terrace were built between 50 and 60 years ago and
have septic systems that are nearing the end of their useful lives.
The second phase — which still is in the planning stage and has no estimated cost yet — is to include Saccoman Drive, Maxwell Lane and more of Lucas Avenue. It will include connections to 25 properties with residences, a manufactured housing park that has 29 residences, two vacant residential parcels, a fire department, an auto repair shop and a vacant parcel that is not designated either residential or commercial.
Funding for the work is coming from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Renewal Development, by way of the state Office of Community Renewal.
Rates for customers of the new district are expected to be about $10 per $1,000 gallons.
The Town Board approved creating the sewer district on Sept. 17. The matter could be put to a public vote if a petition is submitted by residents within 20 days of the board’s action.
