Positive COVID-19 cases now recovered

SUNY New Paltz reported Monday that all positive cases of COVID-19 since the fall semester began have recovered.

The college’s COVID web page announced that there were no new reports of students, faculty or staff with confirmed cases as of 5 p.m. Sunday and that all 16 students who had previously tested positive since classes began Aug. 24, including 14 who have been on campus, have now been cleared.

SUNY New Paltz revealed that just one student is in quarantine on campus and that none are currently in isolation.

Ulster County announced Monday that it had 114 active cases of the coronaviru­s, a rise of only two since Saturday. Since the pandemic began, the county has had 2,274 confirmed cases, 2,065 recoveries and 95 deaths.

On Monday, Dutchess County announced 144 active cases, an increase of six cases over the weekend. To date, Dutchess County has had 5,120 confirmed cases, 4,820 recovered cases and 156 fatalities.

In a conference call with reporters Monday morning, Governor Andrew Cuomo expressed concern of clustered spikes of COVID cases in areas of Orange and Rockland counties. Cuomo said that health officials will be performing additional testing and compliance measures in those areas.

Orange County reported 65 positive cases last Thursday, the second highest total of new cases that day outside of New York City. Most of the county’s newest cases (41) were in the Hasidic community of Kiryas Joel.
