Driver faces charge after head-on crash

One of the drivers in Saturday night’s head-on crash on state Route 212 has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.
State police at Ulster said they spoke to David Lowry, 64, of Chappaqua, before he was transported and determined that he was impaired by drugs. He was subsequently charged with DWAI, they added.
Lowry and the driver of the other vehicle, Ann Turner, 75, of Saugerties, were both airlifted to Albany Medical Center from the scene. The accident, which happened at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday, took place at 1130 Route 212 by Shagbark Pond Road.
Three people were injured in the accident. A trooper on patrol came upon the crash.
According to police, the initial investigation revealed that a 2005 Audi A4, operated by Lowry, was traveling west when he crossed into the opposite lane and collided with Turner’s 2008 Pontiac G6, which was heading east. Both vehicles sustained massive front-end damage, they added. The Pontiac was in a ditch off the east shoulder and Cedarville-Cedar Grove Fire Company had to use the Jaws of Life tool to remove Turner from the vehicle. Turner was alone in the vehicle., police said.
An unnamed passenger in Lowry’s vehicle was transported by Mobile Life Ambulance to Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhnebeck.
State police said the inveistigation is ongoing. They askanyone who may have witnessed the crash or observed the vehicles before the accident to call state police at Ulster at (845) 338-1702 and reference SJS 9842798.
