2 charged in Bethel double homicide
BETHEL, N.Y. » Two Walden residents have been charged with murder for the shooting deaths of two men at their home in Swan Lake residence, according to state police.
Chasity Cutway, 37, and David Host, 32, were charged with first-degree murder and burglary, police said. They said Cutway and Host “intentionally caused the death” of Glenn Travis and Derek Travis at their Murphy Road residence in Swan Lake section of the Sullivan County town of Bethel. Police said the suspects were armed with a rifle.
About 12:30 a.m. Thursday, police issued a “be on the lookout” alert for a gray
Nissan Versa occupied by a man and woman armed with a rifle in connection with the fatal shootings at 55 Murphy Road.
The radio bulletin said the Nissan might have been headed toward Walden, in Orange County.
The Monticello school district posted on its website that Derek Travis was 18 and attended Monticello schools and Sullivan
County BOCES.
“We are devastated to learn of the death of Derek Travis,” a district statement read. “... We join Derek’s family, friends, the BOCES community, our staff members, and all who loved and knew him in mourning this monumental loss.”
The school district said it was making counseling services available for students and staff members in need
of support.
Police did not provide a possible motive for the killings or describe any prior connection between the suspects and the victims.
Cutway and Host were to be arraigned in Bethel Town Court Thursday evening, police said.
State police were assisted by the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the village of Walden Police Department.
