PORT EWEN- Joan R. Duffy, 88, of Port Ewen went to be with her Lord Thursday, Jan.14, 2021, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. Born November 11, 1932 in Kingston; she was a daughter of the late Edward J. Hennegen and Mary (Dulin) Mood. Joan graduated from Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Passaic, N.J. She was a registered nurse at Benedictin­e Hospital for many years. Joan was a member of the Ulster County Ladies AOH, a founding member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel, the White Eagle Women’s Auxiliary and brought Pastoral Care to the patients of Kingston Hospital. Joan’s legacy is her devotion, organizati­on and creation of the consecrate­d Divine Mercy Adoration Chapel at Immaculate Conception Church Kingston, N.Y., which was the former convent of the Felician Sisters. Since 1996, the Eucharist in Perpetual Adoration, has been maintained at this location 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ever since. Joan is survived by her children, Patricia A. Coyne and her husband Kevin of Port Ewen, Mary Ellen Duffy of Bunker Hill, W.VA., Edward J. Duffy and his wife Leslie of Saugerties; her grandchild­ren, Ilissa Duffy Viviani her husband Anthony Viviani, and Edward “E.J.” Duffy; her great-grandchild­ren, Aviana and Alyla; Lucio and Cace. Caregiver Cookie and canine companion Tara. Sister-in-law Delores Lemister. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her husband, Francis J. Duffy died in September 2010; son, Francis V. Duffy; and grandson, Timothy Coyne, also predecease­d her. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. A funeral procession will form Monday 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Masks are required and social distancing may limit the capacity of the funeral home and church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
