Dutchess County reports increase in active cases

Dutchess County on Saturday reported 1,106 active cases of COVID, an increase from 1,018 reported Friday on its online dashboard of virus data.

Since the start of this year, active cases in the county have fluctuated from a high of 2,576 on Jan. 13 to a low of 713 on Feb. 15.

The county also reported one additional death on Saturday, bringing the total since mid-March 2020 to 407.

COVID-related hospitaliz­ations in Dutchess County dropped to 39 from 43 reported a day earlier.

Dutchess has reported 22,088 confirmed cases of COVID since, up 120 from a day earlier. There have been 20,575 recoveries reported in Dutchess County.

The county’s seven-day average infection rate is 4.14%.

Ulster County, which reported 1,564 active cases of COVID on Friday, did not update its online dashboard on Saturday.

The increase of 37 cases reported Friday was the result of 38 news cases being diagnosed, one new COVIDrelat­ed death, and the number of recoveries remaining at the previous day’s level.

Ulster has reported 10,773 confirmed cases of COVID since the local outbreak began last March, 8, 940 recoveries and 232 deaths.

The 38 new diagnoses were out of the most recent 1,487 test results received, a rate of 2.6%.

Newly reported cases of COVID-19 in area school districts are as follows.

• Rondout: one off-site student at the Kerhonkson Elementary School and one off-site student at the Rondout Valley High School.
