Man shot on Elmendorf Street in Midtown

The 31-year-old was struck in the arm and was hospitalized in stable condition, according to city police.

KINGSTON, N.Y. » A city man was in stable condition after being shot in the arm in Midtown, city police said Thursday.

The 31-year-old, whose name was not provided, was shot in the right arm about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday while he was on the porch at 79 Elmendorf St., the Kingston Police Department said in a statement posted on Facebook.

Detective Lt. Thierry Croizer said Thursday that the man was taken to the HealthAlliance Hospital’s Broadway Campus with a gunshot wound that penetrated to the bone. Croizer said he believed the man still was in the hospital Thursday afternoon.

No arrests in the shooting were reported.

Wednesday’s shooting was the third incident of gunfire in Midtown, and the second on Elmendorf Street, in a span of less than two weeks.

On Feb. 27, several shots were fired on Elmendorf Street near Broadway. Two days later, on March 1, shots were fired in the parking lot alongside the CSX railroad tracks between Smith and Railroad avenues. No one was struck in either incident, and no arrests have been reported.

After the Feb. 27 shooting, Croizer said police were hoping to speak with a person in connection with that case. On Thursday, he said that individual still was being sought.

Croizer also said police “have to explore” whether there is a connection between the Wednesday night shooting and the Feb. 27 incident. He said the latest victim “cooperated to the extent that he could” but “didn’t know who shot him.”

There also was an Elmendorf Street shooting in October 2020 in which a man was struck in the back and left leg. Two men have been indicted for attempted murder in that case.
