Red Hook, Rondout post shutout wins

KINGSTON, N.Y. » Red Hook and Rondout Valley highs registered shutout victories in Mid-Hudson Athletic League field hockey Tuesday.

Red Hook blanked Ellenville 5-0, while Rondout silenced Taconic Hills 6-0.

Red Hook 5, Ellenville 0

At Red Hook, Olivia Griffin had a hat trick in the second quarter

to help lead the (4-1) Raiders. Kylee Knuschke added a goal and two assists, Danielle Walsh dished out two assists, Maddie Anderson also had an assist, and Liv Christenso­n scored in the second half for Red Hook.

“Red Hook played a complete game,” Raiders coach Cari Meltzer said. “On the offensive line, each individual played aggressive­ly in the circle to keep pressure on Ellenville’s backfield. The second quarter included four goals and Red Hook was able to pull away and work on keeping possession, pushing the pace, and continuing to improve their passing game.”

Phoenix Mercier and Abby Scott combined for one save for the shutout. Ellenville goalie Hailey Bressard made seven saves.

Rondout 6, Taconic Hills 0

At Craryville, Sophia Schoonmake­r had three goals and an assist, Lauren Schoonmake­r, Mackenzie Heyl and MacKenzie Hubbard also scored, and Riley Schoonmake­r added an assist to lead Rondout. The (6-1) Ganders outshot Taconic 33-3.

“Rondout’s goals were impressive today,” Taconic coach Angela Webster said. “They moved the ball quickly and had strong hits. Although we tried, we just couldn’t keep up with their speed.”

Azure Jones had three saves in earning the shutout. Taconic keeper Sydney Kiernan was kept busy, stopping 27 shots.
