MAN DIES IN FIRE
The cause of the blaze does not appear to be suspicious, authorities said
A house fire early Saturday morning claimed the life of an 85-year-old man who authorities believe lived alone on state Route 28A.
At about 1:10 a.m. Ulster County Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters from the West Hurley Fire Department and several other fire departments responded to the blaze at 1469 Route 28A, between Huckelberry and Tebelt lanes, authorities said.
Firefighters found the man and took him out of the residence, according to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office. The man, who was not identified by authorities, had “succumbed to his injuries sustained from the fire” and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control Unit with assistance from members of the Ulster County Arson Task Force and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Team, authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the fire does not appear suspicious.
In addition to West Hurley, firefighters from Olive, Woodstock, Centerville and Ulster Hose companies, along with members of Mobile Life ALS were also present and assisted, the Sheriff’s Office said.
