Ellenville rallies to beat Rhinebeck
Mount Academy tops Pawling, 1-0; Spackenkill defeats Onteora, 4-1
PINE PLAINS, N.Y. » Ellenville High’s girls rallied for a big 3-2 victory over Rhinebeck in Mid-Hudson Athletic League soccer Friday.
Esther Murray beat the goalie one-on-one to break a 1-1 tie for Rhinebeck as the second half began. Five minutes later, Ellenville’s Sanaa Carter took Jessica McHugh’s pass and drove a 15-yard shot into the far post to equalize. Less than a minute later, Isabela Castro’s low shot deflected off a player and into the goal for what would be the gamewinner.
Laura Voorhis scored for Rhinebeck and McHugh connected for Ellenville in the first half.
Adriana Anderson had three saves for Ellenville.
The Lady Devils, 8-1 MHAL and 8-3-1 overall, is home to Highland 1 p.m. Sunday, April 18, in a Section 9, Class B semifinal. Rhinebeck (7-5) is at Millbrook Sunday in a Class C semi.
Mount Academy 1, Pawling 0
At Esopus, Kayley Huleatt’s goal, with an assist from Fara Kleinsasser, lifted Mount Academy to a non-league win over Pawling Saturday.
Shayne Kaiser had 6 saves for the Mount. Pawling keeper Celine Wood made 10 saves.
Mount Academy, 7-1 overall, will play host to Livingston Manor 4 p.m. Monday, April 19, for the Section 9, Class D title.
Spackenkill 4, Onteora 1
At Boiceville, Kara Kilpert scored two goals and Blythe McQuade and Hannah McSpedon had one apiece to lead Spackenkill in a MHAL match Friday.
Onteora had the early lead as Darrah Allison connected off Nicole Lane’s assist, but the Spartans responded with four unanswered goals.
Spackenkill goalie Clare Sottile made 11 saves, while Onteora keeper Ava Lamb had nine.
