New Paltz advances to Class B semifinals

MARLBORO, N.Y. » New Paltz High advanced to the Section 9, Class B volleyball semifinals with a 3-1 win over Marlboro Saturday.

Francheska Geminiano (16 kills, two blocks) and Esve Mullins (36 assists, six kills, three aces) had big performances again to lead the Huguenots to the 2520, 19-25, 25-12, 25-21 victory. Lauryn Ronk led the defense with 19 digs. Taylor Hill (seven kills, six digs, three aces) and Alex Frenza (five kills, three blocks) also had key contributions.

Alexis Sagala (seven kills, 10 digs), Kalista Berkinstock (15 digs, three aces), Alex Maher (four kills, five digs, two aces) and Madi Callahan (five kills, four blocks) paced Marlboro.

New Paltz will play at top-seeded Highland 5 p.m. Monday, April 19, in the semis.

Mount Academy 3, Spackenkill 0

At Esopus, the Eagles improved their record to 12-1 with the commanding 256, 25-4, 25-14 Mid-Hudson Athletic League sweep of Spackenkill on Friday.

Alyssa Meier (eight kills, three digs, one block), Cynthia Boller (six kills, two digs), Maura Maendel (six kills, 10 aces, three digs, two blocks), Adela Blough (five kills, one block), Kaitlyn Arnold (14 assists, four digs) and Jacqui Maendel (12 assists, two digs) led the way for Mount Academy.

The Eagles will be home to either Pine Plains or S.S. Seward for the Section 9, Class D title 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 20.

Wallkill 3, Marlboro 0

At Marlboro, Wallkill wrapped up an 8-3 regular season Friday with a 26-24, 25-20, 25-13 MHAL sweep of the Dukes.

Ava Wallingford (11 kills, six digs, three aces), Rylee Thomas (eight kills, three digs, two aces), Grace Mesuch (14 assists, seven digs, four aces) and Erin Oakes (five kills) led the Panthers.

Isabella Gulcaglayan (10 assists, five aces, four digs), Kalista Berkinstock (15 digs), Alex Maher (four kills, five digs, three aces) and Madi Callahan (five kills, three blocks) paced Marlboro.

Wallkill is home to Minisink Valley 5 p.m. Monday, April 19, in the Section 9, Class A semifinals.
