Ulster’s active cases rise, Dutchess cases fall

Dutchess County sees its active cases fall for the seventh straight day

Ulster County saw a sharp rise in its active coronaviru­s cases, while Dutchess County’s active cases fell for the seventh straight day.

Ulster County reported a steep increase Sunday in active COVID-19 cases from its last report on Friday.

On its online dashboard, the county reported Sunday

it had 1,488 active cases. That’s up 159 from the 1,329 cases Ulster said it had on Friday. Ulster does not report COVID-19 statistics on Saturdays.

The most recent high of 1,925 was reported March 27.

Ulster also reported Sunday that of the 1,467 people most recently tested for the disease, 52 were positive. That’s a positivity rate of 3.5%.

The county said Sunday that there have been 14,259 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March 2020. There have also been 12,564 recoveries.

There were no additional deaths reported Sunday, leaving that number at 247.

Dutchess County reported Sunday a sharp decline in its active COVID-19 cases, from 1,042 on Saturday to 931, a drop of 111. It was the seventh straight day active cases in the county declined.

Cases in Dutchess County reported Sunday were substantia­lly lower than the March 26 high of 1,436 cases.

Dutchess had reported 27,902 confirmed cases of the virus since last March and a seven-day positivity rate of 4.07%.

But Dutchess County reported Sunday two additional COVID-related deaths, bringing the total to 435.

Also, 58 residents are reportedly hospitaliz­ed with the virus as of Sunday, the same as a day earlier.

Vaccinatio­n statistics

According to the New York state vaccine tracker,

85,3288 Ulster County residents, or 47.8% of the population, had received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine as of Sunday, and 57,237 had completed the two-dose regimen.

In Dutchess County, according to the state, 126,935 residents, or 43.2% of the population, had received at least one COVID shot as of Friday, while 81,376 were fully vaccinated.

Ulster County is also holding three walk-in vaccinatio­n clinics starting Monday, April 19.

No appointmen­ts will be required to receive the first dose of the two-shot Moderna vaccine at:

• The Marlboroug­h Justice Court, 21 Milton Turnpike, Milton, from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, April 19.

• The Shandaken Town Hall, 7209 Route 28, Allaben, from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20.

• Ellenville High School, 28 Maple Ave., Ellenville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 24.

Appointmen­ts for the Marlboroug­h and Shandaken shots can be made online at vaccinateu­lster. com but are not required. Appointmen­ts to be vaccinated at the county’s main “point of dispensing” (POD) site, in the former Best Buy store at Hudson Valley Mall in the town of Ulster, also can be made at that website.

The county conducted its first walk-in clinic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at the Andy Murphy III Midtown Neighborho­od Center in Kingston.
