High school announces top two seniors

KYSERIKE, N.Y. » Dahlia Rosen and Matthew Nusbaum at Rondout Valley High School’s Class of 2021 valedictor­ian and salutatori­an, respective­ly.

Rosen, daughter of Ari and Randi Rosen, earned a grade average of 101.33 to lead the senior class.

Rosen is co-editor of the school newspaper and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Math Team, Science Olympiad, the Drama Club and the Newcomer’s Uplifted Program, for which she is cocoordina­tor.

She also is has been on the high school tennis and volleyball teams and is a black belt in Kyokushin karate.

Rosen plans to pursue a STEM (science, technology, engineerin­g and math) in college but has not decided which school to attend.

Nusbaum, son of Tom and Mary Jane Nusbaum, earned a grade average of 100.22.

He has been a member of the National Honor Society, Student Congress (serving as president and vice president), Mock Trial Team (cocaptain), Math Team (state finalist), Religious Study Club and school newspaper.

Nusbaum also was active in the school’s music programs — qualifying for NYSMMA, All County/All State and All-School Musicals — and he participat­ed in cross-country and track and field, was a counselor at the Wild Earth and Wayfind Experience summer camps, and is an alumnus of the ACLU Summer Advocacy Institute.

For the past two years, Nusbaum has been a student representa­tive on the Rondout Valley Board of Education.

He plans to study secondary education in college and becoming a social studies teacher, though he has not yet decided where to attend.
