TIVOLI- William J. “Bill” Michitsch, Sr., 86, of Tivoli, NY, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Born on April 19, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y.; he was the son of the late Frank and Martha (Gardiner) Michitsch. Bill married Patricia Shannon on Oct. 11, 1958 at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Pat predecease­d him on Jan. 15, 2016. For many years, and until his retirement, Bill worked for the NYS Department of Transporta­tion based in Red Hook, N.Y. Throughout his life, Bill was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight, past Faithful Navigator, and a member of the Fourth Degree. He also served as a District Deputy, State Membership Chair, and District Marshall of Color Guard. Bill was a communican­t of St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook. Bill enjoyed learning about his Gottscheen German family heritage, doing jigsaw puzzles, and word search games. He is survived by his children, Patricia Anne Michitsch of Red Hook, N.Y., William (Kimberly) Michitsch of Fredericks­burg, Va., David (Deborah) Michitsch of Red Hook, N.Y., and Timothy (Maurina) Michitsch of Olmstead Township, Ohio; his grandchild­ren, William Michitsch, III, Michelle Michitsch, Alecia (Devin) O’Donnell, Michael Michitsch, Sean Michitsch, Paul Michitsch, Nicholas Michitsch, and Adrianna Michitsch; six great-grandchild­ren; his sister, Anita Pfeffer of Harrisburg, Pa.; and his companion Fran Remenek; along with extended family and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was predecease­d by his sister Dorothy (Dave) Schaeffer of Tower City, Pa.; and his brother, Kenneth (Phyllis) Michitsch of Harrisburg, Pa. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, April 23, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11: a.m. on April 24, 2021 at St. Christophe­r’s Church, Red Hook, N.Y. Burial will be at St. Sylvia’s Cemetery, Tivoli. Due to Covid-19/ NYS Guidelines- masks, social distancing, and capacity limitation­s will be adhered to during all services.
