KINGSTON- Philip E. Greer, Sr., 93, of Kingston died Friday, June 18, 2021, at home. Born Sept. 17, 1927 in Yonkers, he is the son of the late Hugh and Mildred (Hoes) Greer. Mr. Greer was a graduate of the Kingston High School Class of 1948. He served our country in the United States Navy first as a Seabee in World War II, and then reenlistin­g as an Electricia­n’s Mate Third Class aboard the USS Oriskany during the Korean War. Mr. Greer worked for the City of Kingston as a firefighte­r from 1955 until his retirement in 1980, retiring as Deputy Chief. A few years prior to his retirement, he received his real-estate broker license and establishe­d Wiltwyck Realty with his wife Nancy. A life member of the American Legion Post 150, VFW Post 1386 and Island X-9 Seabees, he was also a tenth degree mason with the Cypress Shriners of Albany. He was also active in the Red Cross Disaster Services, was a HAM Radio Operator and also was a member of the Clowns of America. Surviving are children, Philip E. Greer, Jr., (Tamara Shetron), Su Wonderly and her husband Drew, Hugh Greer and his wife Donna, Jean Valk (Art Kahlstorf), Sandy Schaller and her husband Dave, Robert Greer and his wife Dawn. 14 grandchild­ren and 17 great-grandchild­ren as well as many nieces and nephews also survive. His wife Nancy Greer, grandson Jared Wonderly, brother Hugh Greer and sister Lois Kemble predecease­d him. Cremation and memorial arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston. www.jvleahyfh.com. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will take place at 4. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Hurley Cemetery.
