Woman’s standoff with police ends peacefully
TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. » A female resident of an apartment complex was brought to a hospital after a 90-minute standoff with police on Sunday, Jan. 9, according to the town of Ulster Police Department.
The unidentified female was not criminally charged but the investigation is continuing, Police Chief Kyle Berardi said Sunday.
On Sunda at about 9:30 a.m. the Ulster Police Department responded to a 911 call about a female who displayed a weapon at the apartment complex at 779 Neighborhood Road in the town of Ulster, police said. When they got there, the female, known to have weapons, refused to comply with officers’ commands to exit the residence, police said.
At that time, area apartments were evacuated and the Kingston/Ulster Police Emergency Services Unit was activated, along with a negotiator from the town of Ulster Police Department, according to authorities.
After about 90 minutes of negotiations, the female surrendered to law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident, police said. She was brought by Mobile Life Support Services to HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway campus for an evaluation, police said. The investigation is ongoing with criminal charges to be filed at a later date, police said.
The Ulster Police Department was assisted by the Kingston/Ulster Police Emergency Services Unit, which is comprised of members of the Ulster and Kingston police departments and Ulster Hose and Kingston fire departments. Also assisting were the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the state police, Mobile Life Support Services, Ulster County Emergency Management and the town of Ulster Highway Department.
