WOODSTOCK, N.Y. » A truck driver was seriously injured when a box truck rolled over on state Route 212 on Saturday, May 1.

The Woodstock Fire Department said firefighters were called to the section of Route 212 between Harmati Lane and Garrison Road at 7:38 p.m. and found the box truck rolled over with the driver trapped inside. Firefighters said another vehicle was also involved in the crash.

Firefighters said they began working removing the driver, who was not identified, from the truck while department paramedics began advanced life support procedures.

Firefighters said it it took rescuers an hour and 20 minutes to free the driver from the truck and noted the operation was very difficult due to the size of the large commercial vehicle, it being on its side and its proximity to several large trees.

A large wrecker truck from Steyer’s Automotive in Saugerties and an additional rescue truck from the Phoenicia Fire Department needed to be called in to help with the rescue operation, firefighters said.

A medivac helicopter was called to the scene and the patient was transported to a landing zone by Woodstock Fire Department Ambulance to be airlifted to a hospital, firefighters said.

Two occupants in the other vehicle were examined by Shandaken Ambulance and declined transport to a hospital, according to Woodstock Fire Department Assistant Chief Patrick Rose.

Firefighters said they remained on the scene until 10 p.m.

Firefighters were assisted by the Woodstock Police Department and state police.
