State police search lakes for woman missing since 2002
KINGSTON, N.Y. » It’s been almost 20 years since Audrey Herron vanished without a trace after ending her shift as a nurse at the Columbia-Greene Long Term Health Care Center.
The last time the 31-yearold mother of three was seen, she was headed toward her 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee at about 11 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2002.
Immediately after Herron’s disappearance, police and volunteers conducted ground searches by retracing her possible routes home. They covered about 120 miles of roads and trails but were unable to locate Herron or the vehicle she was driving.
Over the ensuing years, Herron’s family members have held vigils, her disappearance has been featured on podcasts and in true crime stories on network television, and police have followed up on leads. All to no avail.
On Thursday, May, 5, the state police renewed their effort to locate her.
Acting on a tip, the state police at Catskill and the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team searched Maurer’s Lake and Potuck Reservoir, which are both located on Schoharie Turnpike in Earlton, and a portion of the Catskill Creek in South Cairo.
It was, though, another dead end. No evidence or information was developed from this search.
Herron was described at the time of her disappearance as white, 5 feet tall and 105 pounds with hazel eyes and light brown hair. She last was seen wearing green medical scrubs and a blue turtleneck top.
Anyone with information regarding Herron’s disappearance should call the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Catskill at (518) 6228600.
