On the move
Jaclyn Savolainen is the Starr Library's new director, effective July 1, the Board of Trustees announced.
She will replace Stephen Cook, who is re- tiring from his position as director after 18 years.
Originally from New Mexico, Savolainen attended Yale University and worked as a management consultant and freelance artist before becoming a librarian at Starr in 2010.
She has been Starr's parttime adult programmer for four years. After her time at Starr, Savolainen worked as the assistant director of Beekman Library and then, for the past seven years, as assistant librarian at Dutchess Community College, where she was most recently the acting director. In addition, she has served as a member of the Rhinebeck Central School District's Board of Education since 2017.
Tinamarie Fisco of Saugerties has joined the firm of McCabe and Mack, based in Poughkeepsie, as an associate attorney.
The graduate of SUNY Ulster (Class of 2011) and Long Island University Post (Class of 2013: Magna Cum Laude, Alpha Phi Sigma — National Criminal Justice Honor Society) earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Albany Law School (Class of 2017: with Honors). The attorney's concentration at Albany Law was Family and Elder Law, and served in roles such as Director of Pro Bono Society's Albany County Family Court Help Desk, Co-Director of Pro Bono Society's Special Needs Law Day, and Executive Member of Pro Bono Society's Executive Committee.
Fisco was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2018.
The attorney's areas of practice at McCabe and Mack will be Commercial Litigation, Estate Planning and Trust and Estate Administration.
Fisco is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Dutchess County Bar Association, Ulster County Bar Association, and the Mid-Hudson Women's Bar Association.
SUNY Ulster announced four faculty and staff members who have been awarded the 2022 Chancellor's Award for Excellence.
They are Miho Iwazaki, Professor of Sociology in the Social Sciences, History and Education Department — Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching; Erika Finch, Adjunct Faculty member in the Business & Professional Studies Department — Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching; Deborah Kaufman, Director of Marketing & Media — Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service; and Donatila Lendvay, in the Central Services Department — Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service.

to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

Former Assemblymember Barbara Lifton and former State Senator Jen Metzger have joined Environmental Advocates NY’s Board of Directors.
Lifton served 18 years in the New York State Assembly, representing Tompkins and parts of Cortland County, was Chair of the Assembly Steering Committee, and sat on the Environmental Conservation Committee. She was one of the chief architects of New York’s ban on High Volume Hydrofracking, as well as one of the leaders in drafting New York’s premier climate law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
Former Senator Jen Metzger or Rosendale is Senior Policy Advisor to New Yorkers for Clean Power and also serves on the five-member New York State Cannabis Control Board. During her time in the Senate, she was a leading voice for action to tackle climate change, and an active member of the Senate Working Group on the CLCPA. She sponsored a number of bills to protect the environment.
