■ The Catskill Mountain Railroad’s Pumpkin Express Trains offer riders a chance to pick out a pumpkin as they ride the rails of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29and 30. The pumpkins will be spread out on the flat cars and passengers can select one to take home and decorate. The round trip lasts approximat­ely 75minutes. Trains depart the railroad’s Westbrook Station at 55Kingston Plaza Road at 10 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. each day. Tickets are $20for adults, $19, for seniors, military and veterans; $14for children ages 2-12; and free for toddlers under 2. ■ The Hurley Heritage Society will host a free online presentati­on and lecture on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7p.m. featuring the DeWitt Cousins of Uncovering History and the DeWitt Family Historical Society. They will discuss the facts, findings and lore surroundin­g the Kingston Old Dutch Church archaeolog­ical exhumation of their ancestors, Dutch settlers who once lived in Wiltwyck/Kingston and surroundin­g towns in the 17th century. Joseph Diamond, SUNY New Paltz professor of archeology who was the lead archeologi­st on the project, will join the DeWitts to provide details on the discoverie­s made and what the continuing investigat­ion will likely reveal. ■ Dan Shapiro will perform as part of the Coffeehous­e Series presented by the Hudson Valley Folk Guild’s Kingston chapter on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Unitarian Universali­st Congregati­on of the Catskills, 320Sawkill Road, town of Ulster. Using elements of Indie Rock, drum machines, incendiary guitar tones, catchy vocal hooks, and live samples, Shapiro seamlessly blends a variety of styles to give a fresh face to the familiar. ■ The Ulster County Civil

War Round Table will have its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Legislativ­e Chambers of the Ulster County Office Building, 244 Fair St., Kingston. Author and historian Chuck Veit will present a talk titled “A Lively Little Battle: The Battle of Fort Butler.” In a rare nighttime engagement, a scratch force of 240mostly convalesce­nt Union soldiers defended Fort Butler in Donaldsonv­ille, La., against 1,750Texan cavalrymen. The presentati­on is free and the public is welcomed to attend.

■ The Rhinebeck High School Drama Club will present the dark comedy “Arsenic & Old Lace” on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at the high school auditorium, 45North Park Road, Rhinebeck. The group helps people transition­ing to a new way of life, assists with problems at home, work and school, and the side effects of treatment.
