Average gas prices fall in Ulster, Dutchess
Average gasoline prices mostly fell in the previous week in the Mid-Hudson Valley, according to gasbuddy.com.
GasBuddy reported that the average price of a gallon of gas in Ulster County on Monday, Nov. 21, was $3.76, down 10 cents from a week ago; $3.11 in Dutchess, down 10 cents; $4.02 in Greene, up 16 cents; and $3.86 in Columbia, down 6 cents.
New York state’s average gas price on Monday, Nov. 21, was $3.81, down 5.4 cents from last week, while the national average fell to $3.64, down 11.9 cents from a week ago, GasBuddy reported.
“What an incredible turnaround in the last week. While a decline was expected in more states than last week, I didn’t expect every single state to hop on the bandwagon so quickly. But, it’s terrific news as motorists prepare for Thanksgiving travel, with tens of thousands of stations under $3 per gallon, and thousands more to join in the next few weeks, barring a dramatic turnaround,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“Everyone will be seeing relief at the pump this week, with even more substantial declines on the way as oil prices plummeted last week to briefly trade under $80 per barrel,” De Haan said. “It’s not impossible that if oil markets hold here, we could see a national average of $2.99 around Christmas, certainly the gift that every motorist is hoping for. Drivers shouldn’t be in a rush to fill up as prices will come down nearly coast-to-coast into the heavily traveled Thanksgiving holiday.”
Gas prices in New York state are 19.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and 26.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, GasBuddy said. It added that the national average is down 16.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and is 24.5 cents higher than this time last year.
Over the past five years, average gas prices on Nov. 21 in New York state have been $3.55 per gallon in 2021, $2.26 per gallon in 2020; $2.71 per gallon in 2019; $2.87 per gallon in 2018; and $2.68 per gallon in 2017.
