BRUNHILDE “BRUNIE” KANDORA

Cooperstow­n – Brunhilde “Brunie” Kandora peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Cooperstow­n Center for Rehabilita­tion and Nursing. She was 90 years old. Born February 19, 1932 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Gerhard Enke and the late Frieda Vosseler. On May 23, 1953 at St. Michaels Church in Brooklyn, she married Francis Kandora who pre-deceased her on April 15, 2015. Brunie loved to inspire creativity for thousands of children in Brooklyn working as an art teacher for over 30 years at St Catherine of Genoa in Brooklyn, NY. As a child she was forever transforme­d by war living in Germany during WW2 and often sought peace in nature. She was a long-time parishione­r (and Eucharisti­c Minister) at St. John the Evangelist in Centervill­e. Brunie was a force of nature for action always busy, with her students, art, community, church, and family. As a profession­al artist, Brunie Kandora studied drawing at the Landeskuns­tschule in Hamburg, Germany, and printmakin­g at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School in Brooklyn, NY. She has written for the national art education magazine School Arts. An award-winning artist, Brunie served as President of the Distinguis­hed Artists League of Brooklyn, and was a member of the Schoharie County Arts Council, The Greene County Council on the Arts and served on the Board of Directors of the Woodstock Artists Associatio­n and Museum. She had numerous one-person exhibition­s throughout New York as well as participat­ing in countless group shows. Survivors include, three sons, Thomas and wife Molly of Queensbury, NY, James and wife Toni of Norwich, NY and Peter and wife Pam of Charles Town, WV; 12 grandchild­ren, Sarah Jones (Matt), Brian Kandora (Jamie), Michael Kandora (Rachael), Douglas Kandora (Patricia), Richard Kandora, Rebecca Maughon (Wesley), Amanda LaPell (Michelle), Stephanie LaPell (Dave), Gregory Kandora (Amelia), Angela Bogart (Paul), Acadia Kandora and Kai Kandora; and 10 greatgrand­children. A Funeral procession will form 10:15 AM Friday, January 6, 2023 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., Saugerties, NY and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where at 11:00 AM a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediatel­y in Blue Mountain Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Buono Funeral Service, Inc.
