Business commends Metzger for action on climate
Dear Editor,
Miller/Howard Investments, Inc., an Ulster County business, would like to acknowledge and commend Ulster County Executive Metzger’s forward action and commitment to aligning the county’s climate goals with the state’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
Miller/Howard is an employee-owned, research-driven investment boutique with over 30 years of experience managing portfolios and integrating environmental, social, and governance into our research — and such environmental and social considerations inform not only our investment process but how and where we choose to do business. For example, when Miller/Howard relocated its offices from Woodstock to Kingston in 2022, we chose The Fuller Building, an adaptive re-use project utilizing solar panels and heat pumps, in line with climate projects addressed in the state’s climate action order.
County Executive Metzger’s executive order encompasses a broad array of climate goals, including greenhouse gas emissions, investment in green jobs and clean energy, along with electrification of county buildings and vehicles. Timing couldn’t be better with federal tax incentives and funding for clean energy projects created by the Inflation Reduction Act. It’s a great opportunity for local governments and local businesses.
We view County Executive Metzger’s climate action order as a pathway for Ulster County to continue on its course toward a green, sustainable, and equitable economy. And we thank her for her leadership. Luan Jenifer Kingston, N.Y. The writer is president and chief executive officer of Miller/ Howard Investments Inc.
