KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Gas prices fell across the Mid-Hudson Valley last week with the most significant decreases coming west of the Hudson River, according to Gasbuddy.com.

Ulster County saw the average price of a gallon of gas fall 7 cents to $3.36, while prices in Dutchess fell by 3 cents to $3.54.

Greene County saw the biggest decrease in the area down 17 cents to $3.42, while prices fell 7 cents to $3.47 in Columbia County.

The New York state average Monday was $3.47, down 5.2 cents, while the national average fell 7.3 cents to $3.37, Gasbuddy reported

“For a second straight week, the national average price of gasoline has declined, alongside the price of diesel which has fallen to its lowest level in nearly a year,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy said. “While diesel prices likely have a long way to fall as inventories continue to improve, gasoline prices in some areas have gone up in the last weeks as the transition to summer gasoline is just around the corner. “In addition, GasBuddy data shows that gasoline demand has risen for the third straight week, a trend that will likely continue as we gradually see temperatures warm and the heart of winter moves to the rearview.”

DeHaan added that the upcoming refinery maintenance season will likely put upward pressure on prices.

“On average, gasoline prices rise between 35 and 85 cents per gallon between March and Memorial Day, so motorists seeing prices fall should enjoy the declines while they last,” DeHaan said.

Over the past five years, average prices on Feb. 13 in New York state have been: $3.65 per gallon in 2022; $2.59 in 2021; $2.65 in 2020; $2.50 in 2019; $2.75 in 2018.
