Ryan misrepresents facts about Central Hudson
Dear Editor,
I am a Central Hudson employee. The opinions stated in this letter are my personal expressions.
U.S. Rep. Pat Ryan, D-Gardiner, has promoted himself as being more nuanced and moderate than other politicians. However, his attacks on Central Hudson demonstrate that he is exactly like those other politicians, and his choice to use the floor of the House of Representatives as a bully pulpit is nothing short of appalling.
Time and again, Rep. Ryan has chosen to ignore, or misrepresent the facts. Unsurprisingly, the remaining cast of local politicians have all chosen to engage in political pile on. Rep. Ryan has repeatedly revealed his ignorance of energy regulation and policy.
Facts matter. No customer has been disconnected for nonpayment since the new billing system was installed. Any incorrect usage estimates have been, or will be, corrected. Any duplicate automatic withdrawals from customer’s accounts have been refunded, or will be refunded.
There are many other facts being ignored. However, Rep. Ryan and the others continue to teach us that facts don’t translate into votes, or produce sound bites for our daily news feeds. Mistakes have been acknowledged. Mistakes have been, and will continue to be addressed. Mistakes of themselves, however, do not translate into fraud or theft as the congressman has alleged in stating that “Central Hudson is ripping off its customers.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
I expect better from our leaders at all levels of government. I wonder if Rep. Ryan will offer to resign when Congress falters.
