Three Democrats win Northern Dutchess Legislature seats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. >> Incumbent Dutchess County Legislator Brennan Kearney defeated Clinton Town Board member Dean Michael in a race for the Dutchess County Legislature’s District 11 seat.
The vote was 2,574 to 1,629.
Kearney, a Rhinebeck resident, is a Democrat who won a third two-year term on the county Legislature. A former Rhinebeck Town Board member, Kearney was first appointed to the Legislature in 2019 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former County Legislator Joel Tyner.
Michael is a Clinton Town Board member who ran unsuccessfully for the state Assembly in 2020 and lost the Republican primary election for the GOP line in the 2022 Senate race.
The Dutchess County Legislature’s District 11 comprises portions of the towns of Rhinebeck, Clinton and Pleasant Valley.
In another Duchess County Legislature contested race, Democrat Chris Drago defeated Republican A. George Pulver, who is chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature, by a vote of 1,942 to 1,882 for the District 19 seat, according to unofficial results with the Dutchess County Board of Elections.
The district covers a small portion of the western side of Red Hook, Milan, Pine Plans, Northeast, and Standford.
Incumbent Dutchess County Legislator Kristofer Munn, who ran unopposed, garnered 2,575 votes in Tuesday’s election to win the District 20 seat, according to unofficial results with the Dutchess County Board of Election.
Munn won a fourth twoyear term.
A Democrat, Munn has criticized Republicans who control both the Legislature and the County Executive’s Office for what he has said is putting the needs of special interests over county residents and said if re-elected he would continue to fight to put the people of Dutchess County first.
District 20 comprises the towns of Red Hook and Rhinebeck.
