N.Y. state Supreme Court justice races dominated by Democrats

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Three Democrats won positions in a fourway race for the State Supreme Court, Third Department, justice positions during Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial results from the state Board of Elections.

David C. Lynch, who ran on the Democratic and Working Families party lines, won a position on the state Supreme Court by receiving 108,546 votes.

Sherri J. Brooks-Morton, who also ran on the Democratic and Working Families party lines, won second place for a position on the state Supreme Court by getting 105,771 votes and Richard Rivera, who ran on both those lines as well, got 96,674 for third place, enough for a seat.

Daniel Salazar, who ran on the Republican and Conservati­ve party lines, lost a bid for a seat with 87,269 votes.

The Third Judicial District includes Ulster, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Albany counties.

The race in the Ninth Judicial District of the state Supreme Court featured eight candidates. Four of them won positions.

The winning candidates and their total votes were Francesca E. Connolly (Democrat, Conservati­ve), 195,145; Charley Wood (Democrat, Conservati­ve), 184,576; Larry J. Schwartz (Democrat, Conservati­ve), 180,570; and Rolf M. Thorsen (Democrat, Conservati­ve); 177,252.

All four candidates running on the Republican party lines lost. They were John A. Sarcone III, 134,510; Susan M. Sullivan-Bisceglia, 129,465; Karen A. Ostberg, 125,535; and John Ciampoli, 125,624.
