WCU men clinch playoff berth in OT

Brett Glasco clinched a PSAC postseason berth for West Chester University when he scored in the first minute of the second overtime to lift the host Golden Rams to a thrilling, 3-2, men’s soccer victory over visiting California (Pa.) on Friday afternoon.

Alex Caplan broke a 1-1 tie with 39 seconds remaining in regulation. However, the lead was short-lived when Cal responded with the equalizer with just two ticks left on the clock.

Miguel Ross had given the hosts a 1-0 lead at halftime with his fourth goal of the season in the first 45 minutes. Cal responded with a goal shortly after the break to tie things up at 1-1. That was how things remained until the dramatic ending to the regulation and the beginning of the second OT period.

Matt Palmer made two saves in the victory while his counterpart, Shane Donovan, made three.

Women’s Soccer

WEST CHESTER 1, CALIFORNIA (PA.) 1 >> Kara Parvel scored in the 77th minute to give West Chester a tie in the PSAC women’s soccer contest.

West Chester (14-1-1, 131-1 PSAC) fell two points back of division-leading East Stroudsburg, who defeated Slippery Rock in double overtime Friday. The Golden Rams now need to defeat Slippery Rock this af- ternoon and hope Cal (112-4, 10-2-3) can upset East Stroudsburg.

Parvel finished off a pass from Sara Bennis late in the second half that evened up the game and forced overtime.

Cal picked up its goal late in the first half when Erin Hogan bent a corner kick inside the far post to put the visitors on top, 1-0

West Chester goalkeeper Alex Srolis made four saves.

High School Field Hockey
