Section of Route 202 North to close for bridge repairs

Motorists will be detoured to the Boot Road interchange

- Staff Report

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that Route 202 North will be closed at the Paoli Pike interchange in West Goshen on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 3 and 4) from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for the removal of an overhead bridge beam.

During this overnight operation, northbound 202 motorists will be detoured to the Boot Road interchange. Drivers will exit at Paoli Pike and proceed east to the Boot Road intersection, where they will turn left and follow Boot Road to the on-ramp to 202 North.

In addition, the 202 North ramp to Route 322 West will be closed and detoured both nights. Route 202 North motorists en route to 322 West will exit at Paoli Pike and proceed west to the Montgomery Avenue intersection. Drivers will then turn right and follow Montgomery Avenue/Marshall Street to Goshen Road, then take Goshen Road to Phoenixville Pike, then turn left at Phoenixville Pike and follow it to 322 West.

This operation is part of PennDOT’s project to repair the structurally deficient Fern Hill Road Bridge over Route 202 which was struck and damaged by an oversized truck last November.

J.D. Eckman of Atglen is the general contractor on the $2,229,090 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds from Act. 89, Pennsylvania’s new transportation plan. Two additional bridges will also be repaired under this project.

Due to Act 89, more than $2.3 billion will be invested into the state’s highway and bridge network this year, more than $800 million above what would have been available without Act 89. So far, PennDOT has started work on more than 200 Act 89 projects covering more than 1,600 miles of roads and 83 bridges. Overall, more than 900 projects are expected to get under way this year, both from Act 89 and prior funding streams.
