District gets $317K from state for middle school
Reimbursement nearly 5% of bond costs
PHOENIXVILLE » After a freeze lasting three years, the Phoenixville Area School District finally secured a state reimbursement for its middle school project.
A press release from the district announced that the state’s Department of Education approved a $317,606 reimbursement, which equals roughly 5 percent of the bond costs for construction of the middle school.
The money is part of the state’s “Plan-Con” process on which a moratorium was placed in 2012.
District Executive Director of Operations Stan Johnson called the reimbursement “wonderful news,” the press release said. The release also said the money was expected four years ago when the district filed for it.
Pottsgrove School District recently received approximately $350,000 in Plan-Con money for its renovation and expansion of Ringing Rocks Elementary School.
It’s unclear exactly what Phoenixville’s Plan-Con money will go toward.
“The impact to the district’s finances will be determined by the Phoenixville Area School District Board of School Directors for the current year and future years during the 2015-16 budget development process,” the press release said.
Phoenixville completely closed out its middle school project this summer after some lingering issues were taken care of.
Students have been in the building since the start of the 2013-14 school year.
