CALN » The Coatesville Area School Board chose a new president Thursday, marking the first time in seven years it is being led by someone other than Neil Campbell.

The board chose Dean Snyder as its new president during Thursday’s reorganization meeting.

During his remarks, Snyder said he was “humbled and honored” the board selected him as president. He said he has a number of goals set for the coming year that focus on providing a quality education to students and necessary resources to teachers and staff.

He said he wants the board to act as a single unit to initiate all school district business.

“The board president and the vice president do not have any more authority or power than any other member of the school board,” he said. “This board needs to work together and act together.”

Snyder was selected by the board to replace former school board member Rick Ritter when he resigned in July.

The president’s position became vacant when Campbell, who represented Caln and West Brandywine, resigned from the school board last week.

The board is now searching for a candidate to fill Campbell’s open Region II seat. Members expect to appoint the new member at a special meeting on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the high school 9/10 Center auditorium.

Residents living in Caln or West Brandywine who are interested in the open school board seat are asked to submit resumes and letters of interest to board recording secretary Karen Jackson via email to jacksonk@coatesville.k12.pa.us by Dec. 12.

The board has 30 days to select a new member.

School board member Stuart Deets was also unanimously selected to serve as the school board’s vice president, taking over for school board member Jim Fox.

“It’s been an interesting first year on this board,” Deets said. “I’m glad that with the hiring of our new superintendent we have been able to get out of a dead center and get moving.” For updates, “Like” Daily Local News staff writer Kristina Scala’s Facebook page at www.facebook. com/KristinaScalaDLN.
