3 members of Troop 573 achieve rank of Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 573 of Malvern held an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Aug. 9 at Wayne United Methodist Church to honor three new Eagle Scouts: Mathew Schoenlank, William Leisner and Andrew Leisner Jr. All three were presented with congratula­tory citations from the PA House of Representa­tives by the Warren Kampf. Troop 573 is charted by Great Valley Presbyteri­an Church of Malvern.

Andrew Michael Leisner Jr., 17, is the son of Andrew M. Leisner Sr. and Lauren G. Leisner of Collegevil­le. For his Eagle project, Drew researched and designed new signs for 24 different plants (signs will be built by another), built and placed two large new wooden benches from scratch, and installed a new landscaped base for the main entry sign at the Spring-Ford School District 9th Grade Center Arboretum. Leadership positions: assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, and assistant se- nior patrol leader. Drew is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, the BSA’s service-focused honor society.

William George Leisner, 17, is the son Andrew M. Leisner, Sr., and Lauren G. Leisner of Collegevil­le. His Eagle Project was at the Great Valley Presbyteri­an Church. Will researched and planned a project that was to beautify the historic cemetery and help limit ero- sion of the creek area. Specifical­ly, he cleaned debris and trash from the creek as it traverse the property, built and placed a new wooden bench from scratch, and planted numerous trees and shrubs along the creek banks. Leadership positions: assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, troop guide and senior patrol leader. Will is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, the BSA’s service-focused honor society.

William and Andrew are seniors at Spring-Ford High School and are very active in the championsh­ip Golden Rams Marching Band.

Mathew Schoenlank, 18, is the son of James Schoenlank and Bethanne Schoenlank. His Eagle project was at the Wayne United Methodist Church. Mat planned, designed, built and installed a large athletic court called a Ga-ga pit outside at his church for the youth to use. Ga-ga is a variant of dodgeball. The game combines dodging, striking, running and jumping with the object of hitting opponents with a ball below the knee while avoiding being hit. Leadership positions: assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, senior patrol leader, and junior assistant scoutmaste­r. Mat is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, the BSA’s service focused honor society. Mathew is a graduate of Delaware County Christian School and is now a freshman mechanical engineerin­g student at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.
