Chester County schools add make-up days

Changes to schedules a result of this winter’s inclement weather

Chester County school districts have used makeup days and have added make-up days to the end of the school year due to the snow this year.

No schools stated the closings, due to the inclement weather, will interfere with graduation dates.

Octorara Area School District was closed for five snow days. They had an early dismissal during four days, and a two-hour delay on six days. The district had two snow days included into the calendar for make-up days. The district also had several alternativ­e days if the cancellati­ons surpassed two.

Octorara added May 1 and May 29 as half sessions on days that were originally scheduled as off. The district made up for a snow day on April 2. They will make up another day on April 6. This plan allows the district to have the last day of school on June 5, as planned. Graduation is on June 5.

Downingtow­n Area School District missed two school days due to the snow. The district included snow days into the

academic calendar. The district used April 1 for a make-up day. It plans to use May 22 as a make-up day. The last day of school is June 5, as planned.

The district had four two-hour delays and one two-hour early dismissal.

Graduation­s for the district’s three highs schools were unaffected. The STEM Academy has graduation on June 3. Downingtow­n West High School has graduation on June 4. Downingtow­n East has graduation on June 5.

West Chester Area School District added four make-up days in June to the school calendar. The last day of school for students is June 16.

The graduation dates were unchanged. West Chester East High School has graduation on June 8. Rustin has graduation on June 9. Henderson has graduation on June 10.

Coatesvill­e Area School District had a make-up day on April 1. June 8, 9, and 10 are all snow makeup days. June 5 would have been the last day for students if there were no snow cancellati­ons. However, the last day of school is now June 10.

Graduation for Coatesvill­e Area High School is June 4.

Kennett Consolidat­ed School District added three days to the end of its academic calendar to make up for snow days. In March, the district made up for two snow days. The last day of school is on June 12, along with graduation.

Avon Grove School Dis- trict added four school days, including June 10, 11, 12 and 15 to make up for snow cancellati­ons. Graduation will be held on June 10.

Oxford Area School District added school days at the end of its academic calendar to now include June 9 and 10. The district made up for other snow days on Feb. 13, April 1 and 2. Graduation will be held on June 5.

Unionville-Chadds Ford School District added June 12, 15 and 16 as school days to make up its three snow days. Graduation will be held on June 9.

Great Valley School District added June 17, 18 and 19 as make-up days. Graduation will be held on June 12.

Tredyffrin/Easttwon School District posted on its website that the last day of school is tentativel­y set for June 19.

Owen J. Roberts School District had June 11 and 12 built into the academic calendar for makeup days. The district will use a total of four makeup days, including April 1 and 2. The district said graduation will remain on June 12.

Avon Grove Charter School added make-up days as June 11, 12, 15 and 16 to its academic calendar. Graduation will be held on June 8.

Valley Christian School’s last day is June 5. The district said they did not have any calendar adjustment­s.
