Supervisor wants board to look at entire township

PENN» Before the township solicits bids for road work for the year, Supervisor William Finnen wants the board to get together and take a look at the entire township.

“In years past, we went out with the Road Master and made a complete tour of the township,” Finnen said. “We haven’t done this in the last three or four years.”

As it stands, Road Master Skip Elvin is happy with the condition of the township roads. “If you look at our roads compared to other municipalities, our roads are in very good shape,” Elvin said.

One area where Finnen has concerns is actually a county problem at the bridge on Ewing Road. “It’s on our road, but its their bridge. We have to notify the county,” Finnen said. “We need to get them to put a proper guard rail. There’s a hole right there on the edge of the bridge that if you got your car over there close enough, you could go in it.”

The board directed that a picture be taken and sent to the county along with a request that

the county send their consultant to inspect the bridge and hopefully correct the issues they find.

The Supervisors are also continuing to work toward improving the intersection of Rt. 796 and Baltimore Pike. Preliminary design plans call for realigning the intersection after mak- ing room by removing the newer wings from the Red Rose Inn.

Looking forward, the township is also hoping to create a wider right hand turn lane on Baltimore Pike from the shopping center entrance by McDonalds to the intersection. Currently, there are homes in the way of that part of the plan, but the board is speculating that they will be removed in the future for expansion of the shopping center.
