William C. Willard of Parkesburg

William C. Willard, age 94, of Parkesburg, Pa., passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at the Loving Arms Assisted Living, Front Royal, Va.

He was the husband of Helen Souders Willard, also a resident of Loving Arms Assisted Living, with whom he celebrated 69 years of marriage on Dec. 30th of last year.

He was born in Rural Retreat, Va., son of the late Asa B. & Olive R. Stevens Willard.

He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Gap.

He graduated from the former Colerain High School class of 1939 and then Stevens Trade School of Lancaster.

In the past he had worked for the Christiana Machine Company, Lukens Steel Company and retired from L & G Industries of Wagontown in 1983.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in the Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Christiana Masonic Lodge #417 F.&A.M. Also in the past he was a member of the Christiana American Legion and Gap V.F.W.

He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Phillies and taking care of his lawn.

Surviving besides his wife are a loving son, R. Douglas husband of Barbara Pullen Willard of Amissville, Va., two grandsons: John & Clayton Willard, greatgrand­daughter, Audrey Willard, two siblings: Donald husband of Maxine Willard of Rehoboth, Del., Isabelle Willard of Greensboro, N.C.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings: Jesse, Luther, Lindy & Asa Willard, Aulden Parker, Pauline Farmer and Virginia Gray.

Funeral service will take place from the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, Pa. on Friday, Oct. 23rd at 2 p.m. with a calling time from 1 p.m. until time of service. Father John Obenchain will be officiatin­g.

The Christiana Masonic Lodge will provide a service also on Friday at 1:45 p.m.

Interment will be in the Pequea Baptist Cemetery, Gap, Pa.
