West Chester wins Snell Cup

Rachal Toppi scored two goals while Alexia Versak and Dayle Paustian each had a goal and an assist as West Chester field hockey defeated Ursinus 6-3 to win the 37th annual Snell Cup Sunday.

The Golden Rams (12-3) ended a six-game winning streak for Ursinus (11-3), the No. 1 ranked team in Division III.

West Chester scored four unanswered goals in the first 22 minutes of the match to take control early. Four different players each found the back of the net while Paustian scored the first goal and assisted on the third. Kristina Scherrer and Toppi scored 36 seconds apart 22 minutes into the contest to end the fourgoal run.

Brianna Magner made four saves in goal to earn the win.

Women’s Golf

Michayla Siemion finished tied for sixth as West Chester finished fourth in the 2015 PSAC Championsh­ips at Hershey Links East Course Sunday.

West Chester shot a 325 on Sunday and finished the tournament with a 657. Millersvil­le won its first women’s golf team championsh­ip with a score of 632. California (Pa.) posted a 633 to finish second while Kutztown was third with a 650.

Lauren Molin was tied for 12th with a 162 for the Golden Rams while Taylor Daskivich was 17th with a 166.

Millersvil­le’s Shannon Weber won the individual title with a 148.

Men’s Golf

Corey Smith placed fourth while Drew Patterson finished fifth to lead West Chester to a third-place finish in the 2015 PSAC Championsh­ips at Hershey Links East Course.

West Chester finished with a 299 on Sunday but could not pull off a stellar comeback for a second straight year. Mercyhurst won the team title with a 598 score while Clarion, who led after round one, finished with a 609 for second. West Chester finished with a 610.

Smith finished with the low score for West Chester (147). Patterson was right behind with a 148 while Tyler Maiman was tied for 24th with a 158.

Volleyball

LINCOLN 3, ELIZABETH CITY STATE 0 >> Mariah Russell had 10 kills and Shanna King had 23 assists as the Lady Lions (4-5 CIAA, 5-7) defeated Elizabeth City State in three sets (27-25, 25-12, 25-15).
